About Us

NDTNJ is a New Jersey based company with many new ideas to help you save money.

What is Non-Destructive testing (NDT)? This is a difficult and lengthy question to answer due to the many different methods used to test a multitude of different applications, but very simply put; testing methods that do not destroy or alter the tested item. Let’s look at a home for instance; until roughly fifteen years ago the only way to find out whether a wall was insulated was to remove a large section, if not the entire wall, to check for insulation. Now with the use of thermal imaging we can effectively see the amount of heat transfer through the wall. From this we can easily determine if the wall is insulated or not.

In the case of rotating equipment, such as fans or motors, in the past bearing failure would be detected only when a tremendous amount of noise came from the bearing or it locked up all together. With the use of vibration analysis, we can foresee failure (usually long before it happens) and schedule maintenance rather than loosing the equipment unexpectedly and not having the parts or labor necessary.

Some of the technologies we use are not new, at least not to the US Government. The military has been using infrared cameras and scanning devices for years to track heat signatures on planes, locate enemy forces in total darkness and determine factory usage (among many other uses). Don’t be confused, this is not night vision glasses that work in low light environments, this is true infrared scanning that can detect heat signatures in spectral ranges much higher than the human eye can detect.

Why would a camera that detects something I can’t see   be important you may ask? It’s simple, it can save you money and improve your environment.

Residential applications are numerous, from finding areas of missing insulation, plumbing leaks (behind walls), air intrusion, conductive/convective heat losses,  roof/siding/foundation leaks, and much more. A couple of hours of scanning a house in conjunction with a blower door test can save the customer potentially thousands of dollars in heat loss alone. It can also give us the ability to stop minor problems, such as mold, before they develop into major health concerns.

Infrared thermography in a industrial application is greatly enhanced by the use of other non-destructive reliability technologies such as vibration analysis and ultrasonic testing. All of these services can be provided by NDTNJ.

Feel free to call us to discuss how we can help.
